This article is one of several that appeared last week touring GM's new intention of providing 4G wi-fi access in its cars next year. Oddly. the response in user comments sections of various examples of this news story I looked at did not express much concern about the safety implications...
What do you think?
Is this a welcome innovation? A dangerous distraction? A futuristic bauble?
This would cause numerous problems. Not only would the driver want to use the internet, but the passenger would use it and might say, "Wow, look at this!" making the driver take his eyes of the road.
ReplyDeletePossibly the car should be built so that the internet can only be used when the car is in park.
I honestly think this is one of the stupidest ideas..ever. That is the best way I can say my opinion on this. I believe that this will be the cause of many implications regarding an increase in accidents because the driver may be on their phone more. I also believe that if the passengers are on the internet maybe watching videos and such, this can be distracting to the driver and it will take focus off of the road.
ReplyDeletePeople pose the argument of having children being able to watch videos in the backseat. Maybe parents should better teach their children how to entertain themselves without the use of media to keep them quiet. Or maybe parents should actually hold more conversations with their children while they're in the car because that is a good opportunity to go over the ABC's, colors, and maybe play verbal car games that keep them focused on one thing and keeps them involved and triggers their brain in a certain way. This is an innovation that has been born that makes me not proud of being in this age of media. I think they are overstepping the boundaries of what is acceptable.
